Auden's had two diagnosed UTI's, and it looks like we're going through a third. There's a good chance that she is having a sort of kidney reflux issue, say both doctors at Med Express and my googling. It's infuriating, then, that her own pediatrician is never interested in testing her urine or blood, or even so much as looking at her vaginal area, even after when I present them with the information that she tested positive on at home UTI tests and is complaining of pain. I'm trying to get her to see a urologist, but I can't do that without the referral of her PCP, even though the doctors at medex. are the ones who've actually diagnosed the UTI's (that the pediatrician totally missed both times) and are the ones who say it needs to happen.
I think we'll do that Angie's list thing and find Auden a stellar pediatrician who addresses both her's and our needs and complaints. gah! And make sure to mention that both time he dismissed her vaginal pain as her 'telling stories' and didn't even examine for an issue. And in the meantime, I'll worry every free moment I get about the state of her kidneys, bladder, and reproductive organs.

auden's a kid!
Perhaps short, brief posts are more realistic for us.

Last week, we were making funny jokes in the car by going over the rumble strips on the side of the road on an off ramp. Saying things like, 'ew! that's stinky! Daddy farted!' and making Auden laugh. After a minute or two passes clear of fart jokes, Auden lets out a real big fart and declares, "I FARTED!"
Made home made finger paint yesterday with Auden. Huge success! I walked away for one minute to clean up the counter from preparing it, looked back to check on her, just to see that she had painted her arms, chest, and face.
Auden likes to shower like a grown up now. She's pretty good at it!
Auden talks in full and complete sentences, and we can even rationalize with her! Aside from overnight, she's mastered the potty.
I took her to living treasures, an interactive animal park last week, and she gladly shared her carrots with the other kids so they could also feed the baby giraffe. She also rode a pony named Oreo and got bit by a goose.

communicating well
We're officially moved out of Neville and into my parents' home for a couple months!
While it's extremely humbling to be living back home, we're looking at the bigger picture of saving our paychecks and tax returns toward something bigger coming in the very near future.
Can't elaborate on that too much right now, but here's what's happening now:
- Our youth group has done phenomenal with two fundraisers this and last month, and we're pleased to be sending them for a week-long youth conference this summer!
- Auden is learning to talk in sentences! Just today she said, "I want a cookie!" and "Grammy, Mommy farted!" She's been potty trained since before 18 months (I am allowed to brag a little!) and has been making words since way before then as well. She can also sing her ABC's! (Though she says, "A B C B...")
- School is terribly hard after gaining a family. Seriously, it's kind of a total bummer. On a different note, in about a year and a half I should be student teaching, meaning that I should be at least subbing in about 2 to 3 years. My big consolation is that I'm doing it now, and not later - when Auden's older and when we hopefully grow our family, and that hopefully one day we will indeed be living just above the poverty line and can maybe buy a house. (Seriously, I cannot stop watching House Hunters late at night when I'm trying to do some boring reading.)
- I just got a perfect on my first grad school paper. If you need some info on No Child Left Behind, ask! Because I obviously know it all! (Totally kidding!)
-I'm losing some baby weight, but still have some weird deep stretch marks that will never go away. I don't mind so much.
- My favorite book became a movie! Wahoo! It's OK. I like the book better.
- My husband and I touch shoulders when we sit in church; it's because we're in love. I don't think you could put a piece of paper between us!
I guess that's all.
We're erased most of our debt aside from student loans and our monthly car payment. IT FEELS SO GOOD.
(But don't talk to me about student loans. Barf!)

End of October
It's often difficult to find the balance between internal peace and our American selves.
There are the moments when I am able to stand outside, in this beautifully crappy Pittsburgh weather and take deep breaths and have 20 seconds where I don't dwell on my (or my loved ones') mortality.
I find peace in hope, and truth in peace.
We have some ideas in the works that will hopefully become concrete plans in the next six months.

getting by and enjoying it (mostly!)
Sometimes I can't help but mourn the newlywed period that we never got to have.
But how foolish of me. Sure, a person is a person, and an American is an American, and I am both of those, and somehow I can't help but think I am owed this concept of 'personal time' (or, 'me time,' '8 full hours of sleep,' 'a splurgey night out alone,' an 'expensive fancy date night,' etc. I could go on, I'm sure.).
People have been having babies since the beginning of time. People have been having babies when they were younger than me since the beginning of time. People have been poorer than us since the beginning of time. People have been experiencing horrors since the beginning of time - things that I can only hope that my family and I will never ever have to endure.
And so while I sit here and moan about only getting four hours of sleep, or having to wake up at 4am for work, then come home and clean, then pay all our money for bills, then make phone calls for grad school - Do I really have the right to complain?
I have a husband, good health, a daughter who's in good health, a furnished apartment, and a really expensive and education that I love.
At least I'm not experiencing the holocaust or another type of horrible genocide, or at least I am not in an abusive relationship, and at least I have tons of friends and family who are, generally speaking, experiencing the similar joyous, albeit boring, routine of everyday life.
SO maybe I don't get to play MarioKart too often or drink wine regularly.
Things are too good to complain, and perspective is essential.

And here we are!
Hello loves! Sorry to be such a terrible updater, I guess, with Facebook, I just get a bit laid back with updating here. Still, this has always been geared for ourselves and our family, and is a more precise documentation of our lives together, and so it will be updated, even if not as often as I would like it to be.
Anyway! We went to new England a couple weeks back for Raffi's wedding. The wedding was beautiful and big, we stayed the night at the hotel, without Auden, enjoyed an open bar, saw Tim and Kat, spent time with Ali and Justice, and of course enjoyed spending not enough time with Mom and Dad Sellers. We saw some people, didn't get to see others, And we really can't wait to get back up north. Or back to Philly to visit. I am really aiming for something in the fall...
We have a home, we are pretty much settled. I even resorted our filing cabinet! We have a yard, we cut the grass with our own lawn mower, I planted a vegetable garden and sunflowers. I start school, officially in January, but will probably be taking some pre reqs online I the fall. Starbucks is Starbucks, and I really couldn't ask for a better job during this Big transitional period of our life.
I think we are hoping to move back to the burbs of Philly in about four or five years, with at least one of us having our masters/certification. We are thinking we will rent for a couple years, the jump into the pool of commitment and responsibility that is buying a house. Of course, these are pretty broad plans, give or take a couple years. I there's on thing we've learned, it's that you cant rely too much on your own plans, so you have to be flexible in order to thrive.
We are thriving now.

11 days away from Auden's 1st Birthday
February and March have been so so busy!
Nate has his Monday through Friday job, I've been working three to four days a week, we have youth group twice a month, we raised around $1200 for the 30 Hour Famine in February, and for our Pie Auction last week we raised around $1700!
We moved the last week of February, and had a couple of trials to deal with: the neighbors toilet flooding at our new place, a gas leak at the new place, and a contractor who took a couple extra days installing our stove, washer, and dryer.
We had wonderful family who helped us move the big things, for which we were very thankful.
And so here we are at our new place. We got a CRAZY awesome deal with FIOS, and the installation tech. gave us a free extra remote and HD cable, so we've been watching Chopped in great quality, haha. (See what a pound of Starbucks coffee can do for you!) Since they signed us up for the wrong plan initially, they bumped us up two plans for free, so we're pumped to watch the PLAYOFFS this year.
We don't miss our old apartment, as awesome and big as it was, and this new place has already become a home for the three of us. Auden hasn't had a rough night once!

We're looking forward to Auden's 1st Birthday Bash, and seeing our New England fam, and taking Auden's 1 year old photos.

FEBRUARY!
We have a lot going on this month, most obvious being us moving into a new apartment.
We couldn't be more excited (or more nervous)!
Auden won't stop growing. She loves playing, and is learning how to practice walking with her walkers. We're starting the switch to reusable wipes, so we're reducing our carbon footprint that much more (not to mention the $$$ we'll save on paper towels).
We're anxiously awaiting our tax returns..........
Every day is a gift, and we're thrilled have the opportunity to be alive.

Current! Finally!
So here we are, 2011. A lot has been happening: Nate has a new job, Auden is growing like a weed, we LOVE cloth diapering and have saved HUNDREDS on diapers in just a few months, we're thinking about and looking for new apartments closer to Sewickley, and we are having multiple snow storms.
Oh! And of course, the Steelers are in the Super Bowl, and since Nate and I have reduced to basic cable, this is something that we're actually interested in since it's aired on Channel 12. (But, oh! How I miss the Food Network!)
Here's some new videos from just a couple days ago. There's nothing too special about them, besides the fact that they feature my little ladybird.

Hello October! (massive video blog!)
Hi there! Sorry I have been a bad blogger! I would rally off excuses (like, "We are so busy that I often forget to take the time to upload pictures and video," or, "Nate and I are still getting used to being grownups that when we attempt to upload we can't find the right USB cables!" or, "Well, we could upload them now, but mom and dad Sellers just visited, and so maybe the update can wait til next week and we'll just relax for now," or, "Well, we upload new photos on facebook every so often, so maybe it doesn't matter if we put off the blog a bit."), but excuses are lame, and so I am sorry for my procrastination. At any rate, I apologize and hope to manage the blog better in the future, although this is unfortunately not very likely since we honestly have so much going on in our lives right now.
I will elaborate!
I work 30 hours at Starbucks. Nate works Mondays and Saturdays at Doubletree. Nate has classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. We do youth group on Wednesdays. Church on Sundays...
But, to be honest, aside from work schedules being less than optimal and sometimes very inconsistent, this is what we wanted, and we are planting some roots here in Pittsburgh.
Other new things: Baby weight is very hard to lose and that is frustrating. Every time I lose five or so pounds, I seem to gain it back accidentally. Nate is doing so well in German that his professor has asked him to tutor another student for extra credit. We are spending Thanksgiving here and plan on driving to New Hampshire for Christmas (though we're still figuring out exact dates). The Pens have lost their first two games of the season and that makes me very sad. Auden is growing more hair, and it is obvious that she has Nate's signature cowlicks. We went to the movies and we really liked Scott Pilgrim (in Center, there is a $5 movie night. wahoo!) I am very allergic to bananas post pregnancy and probably for the rest of my life. We painted Auden's room, and it looks great! Maybe in the next post I'll post a before and after picture. We also had a half birthday party for Auden, and that was a lot of fun.

They are listed in order of oldest to newest, (from early August to this past weekend!), and maybe it is silly to post older ones, but I think it is really cool to see how Auden developed over the last few months. (she gets much more chatty as the videos progress, plus, you can see her learning how to reach and the grab for things).

Auden is officially five months old!
Can you believe it? I surely can't.
It seems like yesterday I was in terrible agony giving birth to a stranger.
Anyway, check on facebook for all new photos of her. I would upload them here, but that seems redundant since I just put everything on there. (Save for some pictures from my cell phone... oops!)
Anyway, maybe we should all start thinking about Auden's half a birthday party!! (Maybe you think I am kidding, but her being alive and thriving for six months is obviously something to celebrate! At least I think so.)
So! Let's see. Nate just began school this week at CCAC; finishing up his undergrad degree by taking a phys ed class and his language and lab credit. I am working in Sewickley still at Starbucks. We are still just making ends meet, which is both good and frustrating.
Our apartment is slowly but surely coming along. We (myself, mostly) are really wanting to paint Auden's room (a light earthy green, I think..) before I start hanging pretty things on the wall, but I don't know how realistic this is. So although the walls are bare, her furniture is all put together and looks GREAT! The guestroom/office is pretty much all done, so please feel free to visit with us! And after asking our landlord several times, he finally painted the porch like he had initially promised!
We had a Hlopek get-together at Frank's; Jenn and Frank were both home from New York/work trip, and Val even came.
Life is too good right now, albeit stressful at times. God is too good and really takes care of the three of us, and when trouble befalls us we have such good family who have our backs. I eagerly wait for the day when we are able to share our resources.
Also, I am considering pursuing a graduate certificate in secondary education. (I just can't help but feel that it is my responsibility to earn more money so I can distribute it to people and communities who need food and water, etc..) The only thing that is holding me back is the potential cost. But I can't help but think that living (very far beneath) the poverty line and having a kid will warrant me a decent amount of financial aid. RIGHT?

We have a big spacious apartment and a beautiful baby, but needless to say sometimes it's still just as hard as ever.
We still have boxes yet to unpack and little Auden's room is nowhere close to being finished. This can mostly be attributed to financial reasons, with how we are generally paycheck to paycheck, and more often than not it is OK, but when it's too hot to hang outside, and you don't have too much to spend leisurely, being inside an unpacked apartment still gets to you..
Auden's new dresser came with a defective piece that we can neither replace nor reorder, so we're still waiting for Babies R Us to reccomend what to do. So her clothes are still wrinkled in boxes and bags..
We dont have a desk for the computer yet so we sit on the floor with wires all through the spare room, which is full of garbage bags of our clothes because we still need to buy tension rods to put in our closets for the clothes to hang on! And although I found a washer and dryer on craigslist for only $100, we still need the duct to vent out the gas, and that is another expense that we simply can't do right now, and that clearly does not help our apartment look anymore organized.
Oh, frustration! I know we made the right choice getting our own place - and Auden's own place, and our apartment is a real gem, but it's so hard waiting and waiting for us to add a certain essential every [other] month.
The situation will only be worsened when our health insurance starts getting taken fom my pay come September.
In the meantime, it has become my goal to find a career I fully enjoy, with a modest salary and benefits, by this time next year. I do not think this is too lofty a goal... I've applied to one faith based nonprofit thus far and am regularly looking for more options.
Please excuse the slight pessimistic nature of this blog.
